Spring Plants
Here at London Garden Designer, we know that there is some debate as to whether March 1st heralds the start of Spring, or if in fact it officially begins on March 20th- the date of the 'Vernal Equinox.'
Twice a year, around March 20 or 21 and September 22 or 23, the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night are nearly equal in all parts of the world. These two days are known as the March(vernal or spring in the northern hemisphere) equinox and the September equinox

For me Spring starts with all the signs of new growth in the garden, bulbs about to burst forth and the eager anticipation of fresh leaves, blossom, flowers that have been long awaited through a cold, grey and wet winter.
There is nothing quite like the first sign of blossom, a tulip emerging gracefully or the Dicentra shoots rapidy erupting.
My favourite plants for Spring are
Helleborus x hybridus
Dicentra formosa 'Alba'
Dicentra spectabilis
Tulips & Crocuses
Prunus 'Okame'
Prunus Shirotae
