Pimlico Garden Design
The clients of this roof terrace in Pimlico were keen to create a space that was dynamic and made good use of the surrounding views, but dealt with the awkward layout that was punctuated with roof lights, lift shafts, extractor fans and a fire escape. To overcome this, the design focused on the good vista, and we screened out the rest, without compromising on space. As part of the roof terrace design we used Astro Turf, hardwood Balau deck (sustainably sourced), bespoke planters spray coated and horizontal Balau timber trellis that provided an open screen for climbers, whilst allowing free air movement- an important consideration for all vertical structures on roof terraces.

The built in seating area has lift up lids to provide storage space, the cushions have all been made specifically to fit. There is also an electric awning to provide some respite from the intense glare of the sun in Pimlico. Narrow strips of Caledonian pebbles neaten up all the edges and provide a good hiding space for lighting and irrigation cables.
The planting is soft and mainly herbaceous for the low planters, with a backdrop of Phyllostachys bissetii and a clipped hedge of Taxus baccata. These provide good screening and a dark green foil to the more whimsical planting in front.
