Muswell Hill Garden

This Muswell Hill garden was particularly challenging as a designer due to the dramatic slope that led up and away from the house backing on to Alexandra Palace. It was also a very exciting project as the garden led up through some established trees to a secret hideaway where the client was able to record and play music without disturbing the neighbours.

The priority was to create a usable entertaining space and a natural transition from
the modern glass extension through to the more woodland style of garden. Within the garden design we overcame the levels by creating 2 terraces; the first a patio using large rectangular pieces of slate, which then steps up on to a lawn with a focal
Pear tree.

The boundary fencing was in a very poor state, so we built new block and render walls that stepped up from the patio and disappeared into the woodland. This helped to tie the more modern feel of the lower garden into the rambling feel of the upper area.

The surrounding planting merges seamlessly into the less formal oak sleepers and gravel that gradually weave up through the trees and woodland planting. Hidden seating areas along the way add to the enchanted feeling that this Muswell Hill
garden
hideaway captures.
